Of course, it’s no coincidence the ball is scheduled right before the upcoming mayoral election. The mayor posted the invite list online, and your adversaries have already sent in their RSVPs. National Quilting Day is March 18!

To celebrate, Arbor Lodge Mansion will host a special exhibit featuring quilts from the Arbor Lodge collection on Saturdays and Sundays – March 18, 19, 25 and 26th. Learn about the history of quilting and see how a once utilitarian craft has evolved into a true art form. Demonstrations will occur throughout the weekend, plus adults and children will enjoy creating quilted make-and-take activities.

Valentine’s Tea at Arbor Lodge

Join us in the sunroom of Arbor Lodge Mansion for a special Valentine’s Tea during Celebrate Love Month. History of Bicycles & Picnics

In conjunction with the Radler Bicycle Festival (June 18-19) and International Picnic Day (June 18), Arbor Lodge is hosting a special History of Bicycles and Picnics Display. Learn about the early history of bicycles through photographs, displays, and newspaper articles, as well as the late 19th century bicycle clubs and races throughout Nebraska. It’s also the perfect opportunity to uncover the history of picnics and picnic baskets. Feel free to pack a picnic, enjoy a stroll through the park, and enjoy several yard games (including croquet, yard darts, checkers, and bocce ball), which will be available to play on the front lawn of Arbor Lodge.

Take a self-guided tour of this magnificent home and learn about the history of Arbor Day. Experience the Women of Arbor Lodge display in a recently opened area of the mansion. Get a peek into spring planting on the Morton Farm and view vintage post cards of Arbor Lodge.

The park grounds are open as well and are a beautiful place for walking, exploring, and learning. There is no cost for park entry.

Valentine’s Tea at Arbor Lodge

Join us in the sunroom of Arbor Lodge Mansion for a special Valentine’s Tea during Celebrate Love Month. Enjoy an assortment of teas and dainty brunch and dessert selections, along with musical entertainment and a brief history of Valentine’s Day greetings. In addition to the tea, participants can explore the mansion and view the special “Celebrate Love” exhibit, featuring displays of Morton Family weddings and vintage Valentine card collections.

The judges will be looking for tablescapes that incorporate natural themes reflecting the beauty of Nebraska’s parks in autumn known for crisp air, fall foliage, abundant wildlife, and fun family traditions, as well as creative and innovative ways of using the outdoor space. Learn about the history of quilting and see how a once utilitarian craft has evolved into a true art form. Members of the Heritage Needlework Guild will offer demonstrations throughout the weekend. Adults and children will enjoy creating quilted make-and-take activities.

In addition, award-winning, best-selling novelist Stephanie Grace Whitson will join us for a special presentation on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Author of The Shadow on the Quilt, Whitson will utilize quilts, blocks, and quilt tops from her personal collection to pay tribute to our pioneer foremothers. Her presentation includes readings from pioneer women’s diaries, reminiscences, and unpublished archival papers. Whitson will be available for signings and to visit with guests throughout Saturday and Sunday.
