Mommy & Me Painting Class

Spend some quality time with your little one in the beautiful Apple House Market as you learn painting basics and let your creative juices flow. You and your child will each make one painting that, when hung together, will create one masterpiece. $79 per twosome, which includes two canvases for parent and child, paint, and all materials plus light refreshments including a slice of apple pie and water, coffee, or apple cider. Best for children 10 years and older. Purchase an additional child ticket for $29. Space is limited.

Hues of the Orchard: A Wine & Painting Party at Apple House Market

Tap into your creative side and share a fun evening with friends at Hues of the Orchard: A Wine and Painting Party at the Apple House Market.

Over the course of the afternoon, you will transform a 16″x20″ blank canvas into your own unique work of art. All supplies and one glass of Arbor Day Farm wine is included; additional snacks & wine available for purchase. $35.00 per person and the artwork is yours to keep.

International Mud Day at Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure

Did you know getting outside and playing in the mud is not only fun but also beneficial?!

Get your hands dirty and play in the mud to celebrate International Mud Day on Saturday, June 25, 11am to 3pm at Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure. Make mud paintings and sculptures, squish your toes in the mud, and investigate different types of soil (a change of clothes is recommended).

Third Thursday Open Studio

Join us every third Thursday of the month from 5 to 7 pm!

Visit the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts and meet our current artists-in-residence during our Third Thursday Open Studios. You will be invited into the visual artists’ studios, the writers will give short readings and the composers will share either performances or compositions.

KHN normally has five artists-in-residence every week and they may stay any length between two and eight weeks.  They are selected twice a year through a competitive application process.

Upset the Applecart: Art beyond carefully laid plans.

 

Gallery reception: September 19th, 2 to 5 p.m. following the AppleJack Parade.

Select artists will be in the AppleJack Parade on September 19th beginning at 1 pm.

Five Nebraska artists have been invited to examine the familiar, upset the apple cart and present artworks that look beyond carefully laid plans. Often, best laid plans can go awry which may often be the blossom leading to the fruit of creativity. Artworks include painting, drawing, and sculpture.

The gallery reception will also feature the performing artists in the annual AppleJack Parade beginning at 1 PM on Central Avenue in Nebraska City.  The gallery reception will follow the parade from 2 – 5 p.m. at the KHN Center.

 

Upset the Applecart will be on view from September 14 – October 30, 2015. The KHN Center is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Risk and Repair” Art Exhibit

Risk and Repair brings together the sculptures and paintings of two artists, Amanda Smith and Aaron Badham.

Amanda Smith  is a painter living in Lincoln, NE. Smith earned her MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her BA from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. She has exhibited and lectured nationally and internationally, with exhibitions in Chicago, Kansas City, the Twin Cities, Dallas, and Miami and Seattle metros. She was a visiting artist at Temple University, Rome, Italy, and was awarded a residency at Art 342 in Fort Collins, CO. Smith has taught at Indiana University and Minnesota State University, Mankato, and is currently Visiting Assistant Professor and Gallery Director at Doane College in NE. She was an artist in residence at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in 2014.

Aaron Badham  is a sculptor living in Hastings, NE. He earned his MFA from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and his BA also from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. Badham was awarded the prestigious International Sculpture Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award in June 2014. His work was featured in the October 2014 issue of Sculpture magazine. He recently had a solo exhibition at Hastings College, where is also an adjunct professor, entitled A Spirit of Inquiry.

Nebraska City Fine Arts presents an interactive exhibition intended to inspire conversations about the arts in our town. Local artists featured in the exhibition will include Tina Dia, Pat Friedli, Marcia Holliway, Katie Radke, Honey Lynn Self, and Elizabeth Stehling. Along with the exhibit, information about the committee including ways to get involved will be made available to the public for the first time.

The mission of Nebraska City Fine Arts is to inspire artistic growth for the well-being and vibrancy of our community. Programs of the committee include Missoula Children’s Theater and the Summer Art Camps.
