Celebrating Women at Arbor Lodge

In celebration of women, mothers, and especially the Women of Arbor Lodge, this special exhibit will include historic photographs and biographies of Morton women, as well as needlework linens and other handmade items to showcase the historic skills women used to beautify their homes over the years.

Family Fun at Arbor Lodge

Bloom Fest: Lilac Trail Tours

Come enjoy the beautiful, fragrant lilacs at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park! Free, 45-minute tours at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm on Saturday & Sunday. Reserve your spot here. Meet near the playground at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park. Limited parking available.

Visiting Artist Jayson Fann

Arbor Day Farm is excited to announce interdisciplinary artist, educator, musician, and producer Jayson Fann from Big Sur, California will be at the Tree Adventure during the week of Arbor Day. On Tuesday, Jayson will begin building a playable drum from a tree that fell on the farm last year. Watch as he works throughout the week and learn about his artistic process and what it means to use natural materials to create art and music.

Jayson has created similar drums and more than fifty spirit nests across the U.S. His work in both music and sculpture has been featured in the numerous magazines and articles. His residencies and exhibitions are centered on creating interactive arts and cultural collaborations that foster environmental, intercultural literacy, value, dialogue, and awareness.

Omaha Street Percussion at the Tree Adventure

We can’t wait to bang the drum about the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day and 50th anniversary of the Arbor Day Foundation! And who better to help us do that than Omaha Street Percussion! Join them for two performances (12pm and 2pm) at the Tree Adventure on Saturday, April 30. You’ll find them in the Nature Explore Classroom creating rhythmic sounds using nature’s instruments and any other unorthodox forms of percussion they can find or bring along. It’s a high-energy show that’s fun for the whole family.

Guided Orchard Tours

Get a firsthand look at the Arbor Day Farm orchards and learn what’s happening behind the scenes throughout the year. Our orchards manager will talk about the variety of fruit trees growing on the farm and the importance of pollination, pruning, and more. It’s a great way to celebrate the tree planter’s holiday and learn what’s involved in managing a commercial orchard.

Available Saturday at 10am and 3pm and Sunday at 2pm.

Meet at the depot area near the Tree Adventure. Activity is free.

Arbor Day Farm Big 150 Prize Hunt

Arbor Day 2022 marks two big celebrations for Arbor Day Farm. It’s the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day and the 50th anniversary of the Arbor Day Foundation. So we’re celebrating big by giving away 150 prizes around the farm and Nebraska City. Visit during Arbor Day weekend, April 29-May 1 and look for envelopes containing prize hunt certificates hidden in the trees – both inside and outside. When you find one, go to the front desk at Lied Lodge to turn it in and redeem. Prizes include Arbor Day Farm wine, attraction tickets, t-shirts, meals at Timbers and Porter’s, and Lied Lodge overnight stays.

Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the tree planters holiday right here where it all began at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City! All across this 260-acre campus, opportunities abound to play, learn, taste, and shop, all in celebration of trees. In addition to the fun activities listed below, we’re hosting a Prize Hunt April 29-May 1 in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day and the 50th anniversary of the Arbor Day Foundation. Look for specially marked Prize Hunt envelopes in trees around the property to win a variety of prizes including Arbor Day Farm wine, attraction tickets, t-shirts, meals at Timbers and Porter’s, and Lied Lodge overnight stays.

At the Tree Adventure:

  • Explore the tree canopy as you make your way from treehouse to treehouse at the one-of-a-kind Treetop Village.®
  • Experience live performances from Omaha Street Percussion on Saturday at 11am and 2pm.
  • Visiting artist Jayson Fann will repurpose a huge tree trunk into a playable drum. Come see him work Tuesday through mid-Sunday in the outdoor classroom area.
  • Hike wooded trails.
  • Sail through the air on the ZipKrooz and climb a giant spider web.

Junior Arborist Program

Junior Arborists are important people who know a lot about trees and their impact on our world. They play in the trees. They learn about trees. Sometimes, they even hug trees! Sound like you? Then head to the Tree Adventure during Arbor Day Weekend, and get ready to learn, explore, have fun, and earn your own Arbor Day Farm Junior Arborist badge. You’ll meet a Nature Interpreter to get started and be given your own activity booklet. Complete the number of activity pages for the age you are currently, and you’ll earn your badge. Perfect for kids age 5-12.

There is no cost for this program and most activities can be completed without Tree Adventure admission. Available Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Arbor Day Virtual Celebration at Arbor Day Farm

The Tree Adventure and Arbor Lodge Mansion are temporarily closed to help protect the wellbeing of our guests, staff, and community. But we can each still celebrate Arbor Day in our own way.

April 22-26, we will share a series of videos from the farm that highlight our favorite areas and activities. Please follow our pages and watch for new videos at 11 am and 3 pm each day. But more than anything, make a point to get outside, spend time in nature, and consider the positive impact of trees in our world.

It was on this property in 1872 that J. Sterling Morton and his wife, Caroline, initiated their vision for a greener, more tree-filled world—a challenge to people everywhere to plant trees so desperately needed. It is estimated that nearly one million trees were planted in Nebraska on the first Arbor Day, April 10, 1872.

Celebrate this special day where it all began! Explore the original grounds and visit the family’s 52-room mansion, Arbor Lodge. The property includes an arboretum, Italian terraced garden, log cabin, carriage house, walking trails, more than 200 varieties of lilacs, and a charming whispering bench.

Hayrack Ride, Storytelling, & S’mores at Arbor Day Farm

Weekends this fall through Lied Lodge & Conference Center – the entire family will enjoy a mash-up of Arbor Day Farm’s most beloved fall season activities: hayrack rides, cider, s’mores and storytelling!

On Friday and Saturday evenings, Sept. 22 thru Nov. 11, climb aboard a hayrack at the Lied Lodge lobby. Travel to Arbor Day Farm’s Morton Oak tree, where you’ll sip hot apple cider, make s’mores, and enjoy tales from a storyteller, and then return to Lied Lodge.

Living History Weekend – Pioneer Days at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park

Step back in time to see historic trades, talents, and other demonstrations come alive inside the mansion and out on the beautiful grounds of Nebraska City’s National Historic Landmark.

Pioneers of many ethnic origins traveled their way to Nebraska. Join us September 23 and 24 as we celebrate the rich heritage of our ancestors with demonstrations and displays including vintage farm equipment, rag dolls, kitchen gadgets, and frontier education.
