The property includes an arboretum, Italian terraced garden, log cabin, carriage house, walking trails, more than 200 varieties of lilacs, and a charming whispering bench. The Arbor Lodge State Historical Park grounds are open year-round; a park permit is not required to enter.

Arbor Day 2018 at Arbor Day Farm

It was on this property in 1872 that J. Sterling Morton and his wife, Caroline, initiated their vision for a greener, more tree-filled world—a challenge to people everywhere to plant trees so desperately needed. It is estimated that nearly one million trees were planted in Nebraska on the first Arbor Day, April 10, 1872.

Celebrate this special day where it all began! Explore the original grounds and visit the family’s 52-room mansion, Arbor Lodge. The property includes an arboretum, Italian terraced garden, log cabin, carriage house, walking trails, more than 200 varieties of lilacs, and a charming whispering bench.

The Arbor Lodge State Historical Park grounds are open year-round; a park permit is not required to enter. The mansion is open beginning March 29, Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $8/adults; $6/ages 3-12; free for kids 2 and under.
