The Morton Family Goes to the Fair – Arbor Lodge

“Come to the Fair” at Arbor Lodge Mansion, and get a glimpse of the Morton family’s involvement in the organization of Nebraska’s territorial, county, and state fairs. International Picnic Day

International Picnic Day is Friday, June 18. Where better to celebrate than at the picturesque Arbor Lodge State Historical Park?! Pack your basket and come explore the grounds, mansion, and carriage house. Throughout the weekend, we’ll have several yard games (including croquet, yard darts, checkers, and bocce ball) set up for you on the front lawn of Arbor Lodge. Inside the mansion, embark on a self-guided tour and check out the History of Picnics display. It’s a picnic-perfect spot for beauty, relaxation, and fun.

Free Admission to Arbor Lodge Mansion

There’s no better place to celebrate Arbor Day than at the very spot where it all began – Arbor Lodge in Nebraska City! Check out the 52-room mansion for FREE all weekend long, April 30-May 2, courtesy of the Arbor Day Foundation.

Take a self-guided tour of this magnificent home and learn about the history of Arbor Day. Experience the grand opening of the Women of Arbor Lodge display in a newly restored and newly opened area of the mansion. Get a peek into spring planting on the Morton Farm and view vintage post cards of Arbor Lodge.

The park grounds are open as well and are a beautiful place for walking, exploring, and learning. There is no cost for park entry.

Easter Weekend at Arbor Lodge Mansion

National Quilting Day Celebration

National Quilting Day is March 20!

To celebrate, Arbor Lodge Mansion will host a special exhibit featuring quilts from the Arbor Lodge collection. Learn about the history of quilting and see how a once utilitarian craft has evolved into a true art form. Members of the Heritage Needlework Guild will offer demonstrations throughout the weekend. Adults and children will enjoy creating quilted make-and-take activities.

In addition, award-winning, best-selling novelist Stephanie Grace Whitson will join us for a special presentation on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Author of The Shadow on the Quilt, Whitson will utilize quilts, blocks, and quilt tops from her personal collection to pay tribute to our pioneer foremothers. Her presentation includes readings from pioneer women’s diaries, reminiscences, and unpublished archival papers. Whitson will be available for signings and to visit with guests throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Valentine’s Tea at Arbor Lodge Mansion

Join us in the sunroom of Arbor Lodge Mansion for a special Valentine’s Tea during Celebrate Love Month. Enjoy an assortment of teas and dainty brunch and dessert selections, along with musical entertainment and a brief history of Valentine’s Day greetings. In addition to the tea, participants can explore the mansion and view the special “Celebrate Love” exhibit, featuring displays of Morton Family weddings and vintage Valentine card collections.

Reservations for the tea are required by February 12 and can be made by calling 402-873-7222. Cost is $18 per person and includes your mansion admission and entrance to the tea.

Arbor Lodge Christmas Tea

Enjoy Christmas at the Mansion with a special Sunday afternoon Christmas Tea. Guests will enjoy tea delicacies and beverages in the beautiful sunroom, while learning how the Morton family celebrated Christmas. In addition to the tea, participants can tour Arbor Lodge. Mother’s Day Tea at Arbor Lodge Mansion

Celebrate Mother’s Day during a special tea presented in the beautiful sunroom of Arbor Lodge Mansion. Civil War Reenactment at Arbor Lodge

Join us at Arbor Lodge State Historical Park on June 25 & 26, as Civil War reenactors return to Nebraska City. View a Civil War encampment throughout the weekend complete with programs and demonstrations.

On Saturday, The First Nebraska Infantry, Company A will setup camp at Arbor Lodge and join other demonstrators for activities at Nebraska City’s Civil War Museum. Sunday, view various demonstrations and share in the history at their encampment.
