“Sensations of Indulgence – Paintings by Susan Moore” Artist Talk

February 21, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts presents “Sensations of Indulgence- paintings by Susan Moore”. On display January 14 thru March 1, 2019, a Gallery Talk will be held on February 21 at 5pm in conjunction with KHN’s monthly Third Thursday Artist Talks from 5-7pm.

“The enjoyment of delightful delicacies begins with the anticipation and expectations of that first bite… then leads into the sensations of indulgence.” –Susan Moore, artist Sensations of Indulgence, a solo exhibition of works by Susan Moore treats viewers to tantalizing hyper-realistic oil and acrylic paintings representing sweet indulgent delicacies such as macarons, cupcakes, donuts, and chocolates. Moore utilizes the complex tools of color and composition to create works that magnify the viewers’ memories of taste, texture, and aroma. This show encourages one to slow down and savor the sweet moments in life. “I indulge in the art of manipulating paint to read representationally, yet still allowing the paint to dance on the canvas. I keep my subject matter in focus, but I will let other elements of the painting go into impressionism. Composition and scale give my work greater impact, while my use of elevated saturation and contrast creates more “flavors” and intensity. Realism employs illusions to manipulate the viewer into seeing what isn’t always there, but what I, as the artist, want them to see. Along with the paint and canvas, the viewers’ memories and sensations are vital tools for orchestrating my art.” – Susan Moore, artist

Originally from Iowa, Susan Moore recently returned to the Midwest, settling in Nebraska City with her husband and three children, after taking on the positions of Fine Arts Professor and Gallery Director at Peru State College. Moore’s work has been showcased and awarded throughout the states as well as abroad through art partnerships, solo exhibitions, group events, juried competitions, non-profit organization events, and community events. ~ Since 2001, KHN’s residency program has hosted more than 60 working artists each year–a combination of visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists from across the country and around the world. KHN’s gallery program hosts approximately six exhibitions annually, focusing on regional artists and alumni residents. KHN is a program of the Richard P.
