The Nebraska City Chautauqua Committee has partnered with Moostash Joe Tours to offer a one-day bus trip to the National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City on Saturday, February 25.

Nebraska City is one of two Nebraska communities hosting the Chautauqua this summer.  Chautauquas are educational assemblies that were common in rural America in the early 20th century.  Humanities Nebraska has resurrected the tradition and creates a touring program each year.  For 2017, the Nebraska Chautauqua theme is “World War I: Legacies of a Forgotten War.”

The Chautauqua itself comes to Nebraska City in June of 2017.  The bus tour on February 25 is designed to educate Nebraska City residents on World War I in preparation for the Chautauqua.

“The National World War I Museum in Kansas City is truly a Smithsonian quality museum,” said Pam Frana, member of the Nebraska City Chautauqua steering committee.  “It has interactive displays, films, and eyewitness testimonies to the war.”

The bus tour departs from Nebraska City at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, and returns at around 6:30 p.m.  The $99 per person cost of the tour includes the transportation, admission to the museum, and also lunch from Jack Stack BBQ.

“This really is the best way to get prepared for the Chautauqua this summer,” Frana said.  “We are very fortunate to be so close to such a neat museum.”

Reservations for the bus tour can be made by calling Frana at Nebraska City Tourism & Commerce at 402-873-6654.
