Nebraska City Area Economic Development
Welcome to Nebraska City Area Economic Development Corporation
Nebraska City is the quintessential Nebraska city that provides access to a 700,000 plus workforce which includes Omaha and Lincoln, but yet at a population of 7,228 we still offer a great quality of life and the safety of a small town.
Incorporated in 1857, Nebraska City is the third oldest community in the state boasting over 300 historic homes, buildings and sites including: the Otoe County Courthouse (the oldest public building still in use in the state) and Arbor Lodge Mansion (situated on the 72-acre estate of Arbor Day Founder, J. Sterling Morton.)
With the increasing costs of product distribution, the transportation industry makes Nebraska City’s location as important today as it was over 150 years ago. Nebraska City’s central location near I-29, I-80, Hwy 75, and Hwy 2 makes Nebraska City an appealing location for commerce and industry. Barge traffic on the Missouri River has remained an integral part of Nebraska City’s commerce as well as the use of the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe
Railroads. The Nebraska City Municipal Airport possesses a 4,500-foot runway to accommodate corporate jet traffic.
The community is fortunate to offer both public and parochial school systems as well as a state facility, the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired. Combined, these seven facilities serve over 1600 children from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade.
Nebraska City enjoys being home to a diverse base of industrial businesses. They manufacture domestic and commercial gas meters, plastic pipe, and electric fence posts; they process, cook and package meats, and package specialty seasonings and prescriptions; together, they employ over 1500 people.
